Colonel Richard McNorton is the Commandant of the Defense Information School at Fort George G. Meade, Md. He leads a team of 400 military, civilian and contractor professionals responsible for the world-class training of approximately 2,600 public affairs, visual information, broadcasting and broadcast maintenance professionals a year.

Lt. Col. Malinda C.“Lindy” Singleton

Lieutenant Colonel Malinda C.“Lindy” Singleton is the Deputy Commandant of the Defense Information School at Fort George G. Meade, Md. She earned her commission in May 2005 through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at North Carolina State University.  She is a career Public Affairs officer who has served in leadership positions at the wing, field operating agency, major command, and air staff levels.

Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Carden, Command Sergeant Major

Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Carden became the 11th Command Sergeant Major of the Defense Information School on May 6, 2022. As Command Sergeant Major, he is the DINFOS Commandant’s senior adviser on issues regarding the morale, welfare, readiness, and professional development of the enlisted force.

David M. Fee  

David M. Fee, Chief of Staff

David M. Fee is the Chief of Staff for the Defense Information School. He assumed this position in August 2017. In this capacity, he oversees all staff actions, quality assurance, command group functions, and he ensures operating policies and procedures are developed and followed.

Mary O'Shea  

Mary O'Shea, Provost

Mary O'Shea assumed the role of Provost for the Defense Information School in 2015. She oversees program evaluation and analysis to ensure the school's training programs meet the needs of the military services and combatant commands, and are in line with civilian accreditation guidelines. She also oversees all DINFOS outreach, academic support services and the International Military Student Office.

Don Smith, Director of Training

Don Smith is the Director of Training for the Defense Information School (DINFOS) in April 2019. As the DOT, Smith leads a highly-diverse team of more than 200 joint-Service military, Department of Defense (DoD) civilian and contract instructors responsible for the professional development and education of over 1,500 military, DOD and inter-agency civilians and international students annually in the public affairs and visual information career fields.

Lt. Col. Charles W. Patterson III, Director of Public Affairs & Communication Strategy Directorate

Lt. Col. Charles “Kip” Patterson assumed duties as an instructor at the Department of Defense Information School in July 2020.
A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant branched Field Artillery (FA) in May 2002 after earning his bachelor’s degree in English Education at the Pennsylvania State University.

Dennis Cornell, Director of Plans and Technology

Dennis W. Cornell Sr is the Director of Plans and Technology for the Defense Information School, a position he assumed in July 2015. In this capacity, he oversees the technology products and services, as well as the strategic planning functions for the organization.
