The Coast Guard Public Affairs Course is an one-week resident course conducted at 6500 Mapes Road, Ft. Meade, Md. 20755.

This course operates on a fiscal year schedule from October 1st to September 30th. All courses offered after October 1st of a particular year are considered part of the next fiscal year. For example, if a course begins Oct 1, 2025, it is listed under FY 2026.

Course Description

The Coast Guard Public Affairs Course incorporates the instructional elements of communication theory, external affairs policy, tactics, techniques and procedures (TTP), and the practical application of TTP. The course provides students with a basic overview of communication theory as it relates to mass communication and external affairs, and established policies that provide guidance on conducting external affairs. The course provides students with the tools to conduct external affairs at the unit level and operate within a Joint Information Center (JIC) if necessary.

Coast Guard and DoW active duty, reserve or auxiliary personnel in the grade of E-4 or above, acting as collateral duty public affairs officers. Civilians: GS-11 and above. Must be serving in an operational, collateral duty, public affairs officer position (1035 series).
