Rhonda Gambill assumed the role of acting provost for the Defense Information School (DINFOS) in December 2025. As the chief academic adviser to command leadership, she provides enterprise oversight of academic operations, accreditation compliance and student support for more than 2,600 military, civilian and international students each year. Her portfolio includes the Course Development Office, the Office of the Registrar, the DINFOS Library and PAVILION, the school’s online learning resource.
Gambill has served in progressively responsible leadership roles at DINFOS since 2020. She was appointed vice provost for academic services in June 2025, following service as a department head within the Directorate of Training from 2021 to 2025, where she led the school’s largest training department. She began her tenure at DINFOS as academic director for the Public Affairs and Communication Strategy Directorate, overseeing advanced and intermediate public affairs courses.
A veteran educator, Gambill held academic and program management positions in higher education and international development prior to entering federal service. She served as an academic specialist at Indiana University’s Center for International Education, Research and Development, supporting U.S. Department of State and USAID-sponsored programs for educators in Afghanistan and South Sudan. She also taught teacher education courses in social studies methods and multicultural education and began her career as a secondary social studies teacher in Pennsylvania.
In fall 2025, Gambill retired after 26 years of military service as a chief master sergeant in the Air Force Reserve, following earlier service in the Marine Corps Reserve. Her career included deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Unified Response and Operation Inherent Resolve. She served in senior enlisted leadership roles, including senior enlisted leader for the 459th Mission Support Group and the 46th Aerial Port Squadron, and as a first sergeant for intelligence and logistics units. In 2018, she was named First Sergeant of the Year for Air Force Reserve Command.
Gambill holds an education specialist degree in curriculum studies and a graduate certificate in public management from Indiana University, a Master of Science in education from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in history and politics from Drexel University.
Raised in Indiana, she now resides in Baltimore with her partner, their cat, Willowmeena Von Floof, and their heeler mix, Rookie.
