The Thomas Jefferson Awards Program is a competition for Department of Defense, military and civilian, print and broadcast products. The annual contest is sponsored by the Defense Media Activity (DMA) and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs (OASD/PA) to stimulate and reward excellence and professionalism in DoD print and broadcast media.

2012 SOP

The Thomas Jefferson Awards Program, named after the nation's third president and author of the Declaration of Independence, recognizes military and civilian employee print and broadcast journalists for outstanding achievements in furthering the objectives of the Department of Defense Internal Information Program.

Prior to the annual Thomas Jefferson Awards contest, each service judges its own entries and selects the best entry in each category to represent that service in the final inter-service competition. The deadline for submission of Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Coast Guard and Air Force entries is March 15, 2013. TJ judging will be conducted on April 9 and 10, 2013.

The mandatory airing month for one of the Broadcast Category T (Outstanding Flagship Television Program - Unit Category) entries for the 2012 calendar year competition is: MAY 2012. The second program may be any program aired anytime during the program year. The mandatory publication date (month) for Print Categories A-F is also MAY 2012. Likewise, the second issue may be any edition posted during the program year.
