About DINFOS Email Policy

March 4, 2004

DINFOS All:

Recently, the Commandant commissioned a group representing administration, training staff, and IT points-of-view to outline proposals for a comprehensive DINFOS E-Mail policy. That group has developed a set of initiatives to address staff, faculty, and student desires for access to various types of E-Mail accounts while maintaining the appropriate level of computer and network security DoD policy requires. This notice announces the initial step in our program to implement this new policy.

Effective immediately: DINFOS IT staff will ensure that all staff, faculty, and students have access to Service-sponsored (.mil) sites that offer E-Mail. This access will be available on all computers located in DINFOS offices and classrooms, at the Detachments, and in the DINFOS Library. These types of accounts include the following:

GIMAIL: www.gimail.af.mil This site allows all service members to sign up for a .mil e-mail account. Users may begin using the account in only a few hours after establishing a name and password.

Army Knowledge On-line: www.us.army.mil or if you already have a account go to https://akomail.us.army.mil This site is for Army members only

Navy-on-line: www.nko.navy.mil This site is for Navy members only.

As this is a significant professional development and morale issue, staff and faculty members are asked to provide widest dissemination on the availability of these various types of sites and e-mail accounts to the DINFOS student population.
